Hygge NYC
a low-key monthly gathering for the socially curious
Date: Thursday, Nov. 4th, 2021
Time: 6pm-10pm EDT
Location: Hudson Eats Food Court at Brookfield PlaceHygge NYC is modeled after renaissance-style salon gatherings.
Each gathering is an open invitation to the creatives, changemakers, technologists, nomads, entrepreneurs, and other kindhearted, delightful people you think we should all meet.
We'll have dinner, talk passions and projects, and meet those who can help. Keep an eye out for our 'questions to spark authenticity' that we'd normally hand out on sticky notes at the food court we meet up at, but this time will be dropping into each of our breakout rooms during the virtual gathering.
The force behind this event is passion, not business.
We're here to make friends, not contacts.
We believe everyone can teach us something.
We are gathering to help one another do the most possible
good with our projects, adventures, and connections.
This is not a startup or networking meetup. It's an informal get-together of people seeking meaningful conversation and purpose-filled action in their lives.
We hope to help you find it here.
PS - We have a Facebook group!- July 23, 2020

Constructing Your QuaranTEAM During Quarantine with Steve DeanAbout the Event
Are you ready for the next phase of quarantine? How are you going to survive the months of social distancing to come?
Do you have a "quaranteam"?
For this workshop, we'll be diving deep into how to prepare ourselves physically, emotionally, and logistically for this next phase of quarantine, with a special focus on how to build a "quaranteam" made up of friends, lovers, and/or chosen family.
It's hard to overstate how much relationships have changed since COVID-19 started. Our dear love languages of physical touch and quality time feel like they've been decimated by lockdowns and social distancing. Virtual events oftentimes fail to scratch our itch for human contact. Even our longest-standing friendships feel strained due to how much more digital upkeep they require in the absence of our easy IRL touchpoints like work, dining out, and social gatherings.
During this workshop, we will cover:
- How to maintain sanity while stuck at home alone
- Why poly/ kink life prepares us so well for quaranteaming
- Deciding whether full-time quaranteaming is right for you (versus just inviting friends over on occasion)
- How to choose members for your quaranteam
- Conversational scripts for discussing quaranteaming with friends, family, and partners
- Logistics and armchair economics of quaranteaming (nerdy, but fun!)
- Personal stories from successful quaranteams
- Best practices for nurturing relationships even if you choose to continue quarantining alone.
There will also be time for group discussion, Q&A, and activities so we can get to know one another and discover the wisdom we’ve collectively accrued since the social distancing began!

Office Hours with a Dating Consultant:
I'm super exited for the opportunity to chat with Alexandra Ballensweig, founder of the new slow dating service humhum, a human-centered gathering series that finally drives a stake through the heart of our superficial, swipehappy dating culture and reorients us toward the type of connection that nourishes.
Alexandra has a deep background in design thinking and experience crafting, and she has been sharing her thoughts on connection during Covid on Medium. I can't wait to hear from her about how and why she started humhum and what she's learned during their first few months of operation so far!

Office Hours with a Dating Consultant:
a Deep Dive with Zach Schleien, founder of FilterOff
In the dating industry, new apps and services spring up just about every week.
There are over 3,000 dating sites and services in existence today.
But in light of the Covid-19 epidemic, where quarantine is the new norm, certain dating apps have suddenly become top-of-mind for many daters who can no longer expect an immediate face to face meetup.
Enter: Zach Schleien, founder of FilterOff, a new dating app that takes an hour of your life and turns it into a series of virtual dates with people in your area, so that you can get some face time and conquer loneliness with a few new people each week, and ultimately decide for yourselves if you want to take things to the next level.
FilterOff sets the time and the (virtual) place, and when you show up, you're face to face with someone who's single and ready to connect. In this fireside chat with Zach — and your audience participation — we'll discuss how he came up with the FilterOff concept, what he's learned since launching the app, and what he sees as the future of virtual dating.
Come prepared with your most thoughtful and curious questions, because it's not every day you get facetime with a founder!
